The Madonna’s slipper or Venus’s slipper (Cypripedium calceolus) has very showy flowers, so much so that it is the most endangered orchid in Italy due to over-harvesting. Its golden yellow labellum vaguely resembles the shape of a slipper (from Latin calceolus=slipper)
