The snowdrop is the first spring flower. Its name is derived from two Greek words: ‘gala’ = milk (white as milk) and ‘anthos’ = flower and from the Latin ‘nivalis’ for its early flowering in the snow.It is curious to know that it was introduced to England by Queen Elizabeth who had taken it from the wild areas of the Alps.
