St. Martin of Tours, in Latin Martinus, was a Christian bishop of the fourth century.
Native of Pannonia, in today’s Hungary, he exercised his ministry in Gaul of the late Roman Empire. Among the first non-martyred saints proclaimed by the Catholic Church, he is also revered by the Orthodox Church and the Coptic Church. He is celebrated on November 11, the day of his funeral that took place in today’s Tours.
